MATCH REPORT: Prestwich Heys 1-0 Chadderton

 Unfortunately, it was not our night as we visited Prestwich Heys in our penultimate away fixture of the season, as we fell to a one goal defeat.

In the early stages of the game, we struggled to gain control of the ball for a sustained amount of time, with our opponents having a much greater share of possession, but we were able to deny many clear-cut chances at our goal. Our first meaningful effort came around the 42^nd minute when Lewis Byrne’s shot was blocked, with the rebound forcing a save out of the Heys goalkeeper.

After a largely uneventful first half, we started the second half on the front foot, Lewis Byrne was once again attempting to make things happen. This time, he gets down the left-hand side and fires the ball across to Robert Flynn, who was unfortunately unable to keep his left footed shot down, as it risen over the crossbar.

But it was approaching the closing stages of the game when disaster would strike. A penalty was awarded to the home team as Bryson Appleton was brought down inside the area. Heys’ attacker, Louis Holt, would step up to take the penalty and dispatch of it, despite our goalkeeper, Oliver Cilkin getting close to it.

For the remainder of the game, we would attempt to find a route back into the fixture, but the Prestwich defence proved too resilient for us to break down on this occasion, and we would be forced to settle for a disappointing 1-0 defeat on the road.

However, there is little time to dwell on this result, as attention must rapidly shift to the weekends clash with a solid FC St Helens side away from home.
